Spado Im en Export BV was established in 1991 in the Netherlands by Dutch entrepreneurs Sieb van Doorn and Piet Spaargaren, leveraging their extensive farming experience in Sri Lanka and the Netherlands. In 1994, they expanded their agricultural operations by founding Spado International (PVT) LTD and establishing a new farm in Dankotuwa, Sri Lanka.

Recognizing opportunities for growth and diversification, the founders further expanded their operations to include cut-foliage production. This led to the creation of The Leaf Company (PVT) LTD in Pallama, complemented by two additional farms located in Deraniyagala and Hatton, situated in Sri Lanka’s picturesque inland regions.

Our journey is marked by a steadfast commitment to sustainability and innovation. We have implemented eco-friendly practices and established a Research and Development Laboratory dedicated to sustainable farming and biotechnology. Additionally, we offer a long-standing production line of handmade ceramics, designed by Marianne van Doorn-de Graaf, which complements our Livistona rotundifolia palm products.

Today, our farms are industry leaders in Sri Lanka’s horticulture sector. We are a highly acclaimed export company, with weekly shipments to Europe, making us the largest horticulture exporter in Sri Lanka. Our main farms are fully certified under the Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) program, ensuring the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
